Hardware Requirements

1. PLC : Allen-Bradley Micrologix 1200C.

It will act as the main controller for the mixing process. All the commands will
be generated through this PLC.
2. Tank : Two Reservoirs and one main Mixing tank of volume approximately 5 litres
for reservoirs and 10 -15 litres for mixing tank.
3. Mixer motor : Not yet finalised.
4. Solenoid : Two A.C. controlled solenoid running on 24 V. These will act as control
element for liquid fed in mixing tank.
5. Relay : 3-4 Relays for connecting Solenoids and Mixer motor.
6. Level Sensors : Not yet finalised.
7. Push Buttons : 2 Push button - For starting and stopping the process.
8. Selector Switch : Not yet finalised.
9. LEDs : These will be used to indicate the stages of process.
10. Power Supply
11. Connector cables
12. Clamping stand : It will be used to hold the mixer motor.

Software Requirements

Ladder Logic
Ladder logic is one form of drawing electrical logic schematics, and is a graphical language
very popular for programming PLCS. Ladder logic was originally invented to describe logic
made from relays. The name is based on the observation that programs in this language
resemble ladders, with two vertical rails and a series of horizontal rungs between them.
Programming Software: Rockwell software RS Logix 500 English
This family of products has been developed to operate on Microsoft Windows operating
systems. It Supports the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 and Micro Logix families of processors.
RSLogix 500 benefits include:
(a) Cross-reference information
(b) Drag-and-drop editing
(c) Diagnostics
(d) Dependable communications
Communication Software: RS Linx
Programming Language: Ladder Logix
Communication Protocol: RS 232

Proposed Work
To design a system using Programmable Logic Controller with the specifications
given:

There are 3 outputs Inlet Valve1, Inlet Valve2 and mixer motor.
Two push-button switches are there for START, STOP of the process.

After START push button is pressed, liquid from Inlet Valve1 falls into the
mixing tank upto 50% level of mixing tank.
Then, Inlet Valve1 is closed and Inlet Valve2 is opened. Inlet Valve2 remains
open till the mixing tank becomes full.
For consistent concentration of both the liquids, mixer motor is used. Mixer
motor starts immediately as soon as Inlet Valve2 is closed.
Mixer motor operates for 5 min.
An indicator led lights up representing end of mixing.
