COMMUNIQUE OF THE NATIONAL MARITIME CONFERENCE-2015 HELD


AT KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE, NAIROBI, ON
23RD AND 24TH FEBRUARU 2015
The first National Maritime Conference opened by His Excellency the
President of the Republic of Kenya and attended by the Secretary General of
the International Maritime Organization, Cabinet Secretaries, Governors,
Principal Secretaries, Vice Chancellors of Universities, Private Sector Chief
Executive Officers, Local and International Stakeholders was held at the
Kenyatta International Conference Centre on 23rd and 24th February, 2015.
The Conference recognized the immense potential of the blue economy in
the social and economic development of Kenya;
Noted the lack of an integrated National Maritime policy framework for the
sector as a major impediment to its growth;
Cognizant of the need to develop such a policy, legal and institutional
framework to support the maritime sector in Kenya;

The Conference resolved to:


1. Develop an Integrated National Maritime Policy;
2. Put in place an effective and robust regulatory framework for the
sector;
3. Develop a strategy for marine resource exploration;
4. Ensure enhanced maritime safety and security mechanisms are put in
place;

5. Build human resource capacity for the maritime sector;


6. Put in place an attractive fiscal and regulatory environment/framework
to attract investment and funding for the sector.
