Digital Camera for Sexual Assaults:

In general this is what you want to look for in a digital camera.

• Minimum requirements:
• 5.0 megapixel camera
• Ability to use a tripod or monopod
• Ability to add additional lenses

These cameras are mini-portable computers- they are fairly easy to damage and break. I
would suggest a minimum of 2 year extended warranty. Make sure the warranty is fairly
extensive. (In other words shop around and it might be better to find a local dealer who
can provide you with good service than to buy online. We have had good luck with Ritz
Camera, which is a large nationally owned chain with many local shops.) Ritz provides a
warranty that covers any kind of damage (including dropping the camera ) except water
and theft.

Salt Lake SANE uses the following:

Equipment list :
Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 price $299.00
Extended warranty
Bogen –Self standing professional monopod model # 3230 price $ 89.99
Bogen –Quick release tilt top for monopod model # 3220 price $ 29.95

If you want to view an enlarged image (magnified) during the exam then you might also
consider an LCD TV that may be small enough to be portable. These cameras can be
attached to any television and what the camera is seeing will appear on the TV screen.
You should be able to find a flat screen TV monitor for $400-$600. You may also want to
consider an extended warranty if you are going to be moving the monitor to several sites.

You can now also purchase a Pinnacle USB TV Tuner. This is a USB device which you
can add to a computer or laptop that allows you to use your laptop screen as a real time
monitor for the camera. The cost is about $100.00.
