Dear Selection Committee,

I am writing on behalf of Mr. Michael Dale. Ive known Mr. Dale for most of
his teaching career. Recently we served at Roosevelt High School where he taught
science and I was a School Improvement Leader. Mr. Dale is a consummate
professional who fulfills his obligations to the school in an exemplary manner. He can
be relied on in the most difficult of situations and is dedicated to his own growth as a
professional.
Mr. Dales knowledge of effective school leadership is impressive. He is
looking for that first opportunity to demonstrate his capability. Over the past eight
years, he has taken on challenges to earn a masters degree and administration
credentials. He has been thoughtful and strategic in gaining experience in a wide
variety of situations. He substituted for me in the main office a few times to handle
discipline. He attended a parent meeting to support his co-workers in the English
department when they first began experimenting with Standards-Referenced Grading.
From that meeting, he developed a parent informational brochure on SRG that we used
at parent-teacher conferences that fall. His ability to plan, work with others and push
student achievement has been instrumental to Roosevelts success.
Mr. Dale is an instructional leader. In his classroom, instructional goals and
activities, interactions and the classroom environment convey high expectations for
student achievement. Mr. Dale displays a solid understanding of the different
approaches to learning that different students exhibit. He has been instrumental in
developing Data Teaming under extraordinary circumstances. A couple of years ago,
the Roosevelt Science Department experienced a tragedy in the sudden death of Mr.
Dales teaching partner. Without his support for a struggling new teacher, a long-term
substitute teacher and his leadership in the wake the loss of one of our teachers, our
students, our department and our school would have been much worse off. His ability
to plan and prepare instruction for two other classrooms in addition to his own
demonstrates his exemplary skill. I have been honored to serve with Mr. Dale.
