    This illustration is designed to teach “Open Note” tuning to Beginning Guitarists. With an E note played from a piano, harmonica, tuning fork, pitch pipe or electronic guitar tuner you can tune the entire guitar. This also allows you to tune the entire guitar down or up a half or whole octave or to whatever key you wish. Blues players prefer tuning the guitar down a half step to the flats. Jazz like to tune up to the same key as the other musicians jamming with them. Alternative Rock will do “partial tuning” where one or two strings, will be tuned differently then normal; the low E may be tuned down a full step to “D” so the strings will be tuned to DADGBE, etc..
