Understanding the Basic Concepts of Geometry

When I was in elementary, I remember learning about geometry.
I learned how to identify the shapes at a
young age and then learned the
formulas for the shapes. In my class
there were not many real life problems
that would allow me to form concept
connection. There was no discussion or
talk that would allow me to have a
better and deeper understanding of
why I needed to learn geometry. In the
time that I have been observing I have
been able to notice that providing real
life examples.
I have also come to understand and to see in my field
experiences that the teachings must be tailored for all students and all
types of learners. Teaching geometry allows the instruction to be
accessible to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. Confucious
said, I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.

The use of manipulatives in mathematics such as geometry allows for

a better retention of information that will be needed in future
mathematical concepts.

students are expected to
identify and name twodimensional and threedimensional shapes, they
must compare shapes,
and should be able to create shapes. By third grade, students must be
able to understand and categorize shapes into groups such as
quadrilaterals and must also be able to partition shapes into parts
with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the
whole (CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.G.A.1and3.G.A.2).Insixthgradestudentsare
