Subject: Science-Ecosystems Topic: Food Chains Standards: 5.3.6.B.1, 5.3.6.B.2, 5.3.6.C.2, 5.3.6.C.3 Objective: Students will create and label examples of food chains and explain their importance. Materials: Food chain cards Drawing paper Crayons Lined paper Smart Board Procedure: Anticipatory Set: Activate prior knowledge by having students name the different types of organisms they learned about yesterday. Show Food Chains Brain Pop video. 1. Model how to create food chains using online game. Have students do examples on the Smart Board. 2. Introduce and explain the food chain card activity (students can use cards, draw, or act out their food chain). 3. Students present their food chains. 4. Aquarium: Have students brainstorm about what fish eat and what eats fish. Students will individually create a food chain for our aquarium on lined paper (put organisms in order and label each as producer, consumer, or decomposer), and explain why a food chain is important. Assessment: Students will be assessed based on how effectively they create a food chain for our aquarium and explain why it is important. Differentiation: Students are grouped based on ability.
