Writing a belonging essay

Ensure that you define belonging in your thesis ensure that this
definition is directly and explicitly linked to the direction that the question
gives do not simply parrot a prepared response. The definition must be
in terms of the manner in which you will discuss the composers purposes
in the texts you will discuss.
Identify the texts, composers and issues that you are going to discuss in
your introduction.
Make sure that your related text/s provide variety of both ideas and
techniques make them different text-types.
Your topic sentences must be directed to the issue of belonging, not the
text DO NOT START YOUR PARAGRAPHS INTRODUCING THE SET POEMS
OR RELATED TEXTS YOUR ESSAY IS ABOUT BELONGING, NOT ANY OF
THESE TEXTS. The texts are there to provide evidence of what you are
saying about the AOS, not to be discussed in their own right.
Make sure that you discuss the conclusions that the composers of the
texts are drawing about belonging, rather than simply going through the
texts themselves. Make sure that these conclusions are linked to the
question set/the thesis that you have established.
All statements about the purpose of the texts must be supported by direct
textual reference (quotes usually). This evidence must be evaluated
techniques must be named, and the effect on the responder in terms of
conveying the issue of belonging must be outlined. You need 2 3 quotes
per issue.
You must make links between the points of your discussion this link
should relate to the argument you are making which must relate directly
to the question that has been set.
You must be aware of what you can manage in 40 minutes you must fulfil
the requirements of the question in terms of texts referred to.
