Procedure:
Part 1: Introduce New France (30 min)
Have students come together in their group rows. Each group will get one picture; students have 30 seconds to talk together to discuss what they think it is. Go around the room and have the groups share Explain that they are pictures having to do with New France. What is new France? That is what they have to find out. Hand out sheets for mini-books, and have students fold themexplain how the WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE goes on each pageNew France, Coureurs des bois, Voyageurs. Put pages on the board (NF-122-123, CB/Voy-133-135). Check for understanding. When you are done, please read. Part 2: Explain assignment (25 minutes) Hand out postcard assignment sheets and read through the instructions. They should use the knowledge they gained from taking notes for the writing on the back. Brainstorm as a class the things they could write about. Front of the postcardshow examples on the smartboard of what postcards look like. Brainstorm together what they could put on the front of the postcard. Review marking criteria on the back. Students have the rest of the time to work. Part 3- Closure (5 minutes) Students need a sticky note. Activity is called pluses and minuses They must write down their name and tell me one thing they are confused about with New France, and one thing they think is really interesting. Stick on board. (Model sticky note on board if need be)
