The traffic congestions are one of the major issues around the world.

They are
increasingly obvious in all big cities, on each continent and only the remote rural
areas are not affected from this phenomenon. I definitely agree that substantially
more people rely on their cars to commute, creating huge traffic problems in the
recent years. An improved public transport and the imposition of higher taxes for
car owners will be suggested as effective solutions in this essay.
To begin with, many cities that suffer from heavy traffic jams do not offer an
alternative for their citizens. Take the USA, for example. Vast majority of
American cities do not have a reliable public transport system. Considering that
distances there are particularly long, Americans do not have any other solution
and resort to cars as essential means of transport. If there was a well-developed
public transport, many people would abandon their cars and switch to buses that
would be both cheaper and faster way to travel. Thus, investing in the
establishment of public transport that is frequent and on affordable price, would
significantly decrease the traffic levels.
In addition to this, higher taxes have to be imposed on car owners. For
instance, in Sofia, Bulgaria, a law has been recently introduced that affects
citizens who have cars and live in the city centre. They should pay increased
taxes for their vehicles and as a result, the city centre has changed, allowing
more available car parks and reduced traffic levels. Therefore, more rigid taxes
can benefit governments efforts to discourage people from using cars.
After analysing how a better public transport service and raised taxes for car
owners act as a precursor to normal city traffic, it is hoped that these measures
will be brought to the fore. It is predicted that city congestions will reduce and as
a consequence, the air pollution in cities will also diminish.
