The Pregnancy Project by Gaby Rodriguez, 216 pages
ACR Sheet
Action: Le The Pregnancy Project por Gaby Rodriguez.
Connection: I chose The Pregnancy Project simply because I heard a lot of good things about it.
I knew others in the class had read it and really enjoyed it, so I figured I would give it a shot. It is
connected to Spanish culture because the main character, Gaby, is Mexican. Also, in the book,
Gaby makes specific references to how teen pregnancy and poverty is especially present in
Hispanic communities. The only thing I did to help get a better grasp on the book was watch the
Lifetime movie based on The Pregnancy Project. Even though it didnt help me actually
complete the project, I liked the visualization of what I had read. Besides that, I mostly got what
I needed directly from the book. Also, all of the music on the playlist is music I like and listen to
almost regularly, so I simply just used songs I felt related back to the story.
Reflection: I learned a lot from this project. My original idea was to do a classic comparison
between the book and the movie (which was the actual reason I watched the movie in the first
place) but about halfway through the report I realized that I just didnt want to be doing that.
That was when I switched to making a playlist (about a week and a half before the due date). Ive
made playlists before, for friends and different occasions, so I knew it was something I could not
only handle but also have fun with. I determined what songs would be on the playlist one day,
then the next I burned the CD with the help of my dad. After that, I created the document that
described each song, how it relates to the book, and why I chose it to be on the playlist. Im glad
I switched projects; I had a lot of fun making the CD.
