Center for Independent Living
Dylan Brown has been with the Center for Independent Living of Middle TN since May of 2008, certified as
‘8 Work incentives Coordinator since the summer of 2008 and provided Independent Living services to
Consumers in the Nashville area since he began employed with the Center for Independent Living.
hile attending college, atthe age of 22, Dylan acquired a C6, €-7 Spinal Cord Injury as a result of serious
‘car accident, Since that moment, Dylan has been an journey as a person with a disability trying to, at fist,
Sdjust and learn about my disabilty, then move forward with all resources available to assist with
Completion of college and ultimately full-time employment. This process included drawing $SY/SSOI
benefits, utilizing Vocational Rehabilitation Services, disabled student services, and becoming entrenched
in the broader disability community in Tennessee.
Dylan graduated from MTSU in 2006 with a degree in Political Science. While at MTSU, Dylan also
graduated from the Tennessee Partners in Policy-making group which gave him a great understanding of
the diversity of disabilities people are born with or acquire, the many resources available for people with
disabilities, and provided an excellent avenue for networking. Asa result of connections made through this
froup, Dylan served for one three-year term on the Developmental Disabilities Council of TN and the
Statewide Independent Living Council of TN
Je Emily Hoskins, Co-Presenter
Center for Independent Living
Emily Hoskins graduated from the University of tlinols in 2007 with a Masters in Clinical Psychology from
Murray State University in 201. She moved to Nashulle and began working at the Center for Independent
Living last October. Born with a cancerous tumor on her spine and as a result, becoming paralyzed from
the waist down, Emily has 2 huge amount of experience in the disability community, both personally and
professionally. She has also been playing wheelchair basketball for 15 years at recreational, collegiate and
‘even international levels.
