Introduction: Who had a greater impact on Canada between the Canadian Actor William Shatner and
the Canadian Politician Tommy Douglas?
Thesis: The following comparison report will prove that William Shatner had a greater impact on Canada
than Tommy Douglas. William has become an icon for many through his achievements, awards, and
participation in acting. He has been recognized by Canada and even offered the position as governor
General.
Supporting Point: William Shatner won the major role as captain Kirk in the American series Star Trek.
This made him an entertainment icon for many Canadians. He has also hosted many television shows
that he created and has acted in the Canadian National Repertory Theatre in Ottawa. He has
participated in the Stratford Festival as an actor and has acted on Broadway. Lastly William has also
started in many movies other than Star Trek like The Brothers Karamazov. He has won 2 Emmy
awards and has received 5 nominations from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.
He has also won the golden globe Award for best performance by an actor in a supporting role for
Boston legal.
Recognition: Tommy Douglas has achieved many things for Canada. He is called the Father of medicare. He formed the socialist government in 1944 and take major actions against the war measures act.
These are great achievements but his effect on Canada is not as great as that of William Shatner.
Major Point: William Shatner was even elected to become the new governor general. A position which
he could still take on if he wanted to. He turned down this position but, it reflects that he has been a
great impact on Canadians to be trusted and elected for this position.
Conclusion: This comparison report will have proven that William Shatner had a greater impact on
Canada than Tommy Douglas had. The reasons are that he has been iconic to many Canadians and is an
icon of acting. He has acted in many movies and series along with hosting his own television shows.
Despite what Tommy has down it does not affect Canadians as much as what William has done does.
