Rehabilitation is a treatment or treatments designed to facilitate the proc

ess of recovery from injury, illness, or disease to as normal acondition as

possible.
To restore to good health or useful life, as through therapy and education
: rehabilitate a patient; rehabilitate a prison inmate.
The noun rehabilitation comes from the Latin prefix re-, meaning again
and habitare, meaning make fit. When something falls in to disrepair
and needs to be restored to a better condition, it needs rehabilitation.
People seek rehabilitation after an accident or surgery to restore their
strength, or to learn to live without drugs or other addictive substances or
behaviors.
Rehabilitation: The process of helping a person who has suffered an
illness or injury restore lost skills and so regain maximum selfsufficiency. For example, rehabilitation work after a stroke may help the
patient walk and speak clearly again.
Rehabilitation is programs that help a prisoner stop whatever addiction
they have, or at least give them the education to help them stop. Alcohol
treatment for an alcoholic, anger management treatment for someone
whom has assaultive behavior, drug treatment for drug addicts and
sexual treatment for a criminal that has committed a sexual crime. They
also have classes for education so that a person could get their GED as
well because some of these prisoners are just uneducated and criminal
behavior is all they know. They also have religion which includes Bible
study groups. All of these programs are there to help a prisoner so that
when they are released the hope is they wont continue their criminal
behavior and they would be able to get employment in order to be a
productive member of society.
Purpose
The purpose of rehabilitation is to restore some or all of the patient's phy
sical, sensory, and mental capabilities that were lost due to
injury, illness, or disease. Rehabilitation includes assisting the patient to
compensate for deficits that cannot be reversed medically. It isprescribed
after many types of injury, illness, or disease, including amputations, arth
ritis, cancer, cardiac disease, neurological problems, orthopedic injuries,
spinal cord injuries, stroke, and traumatic brain injuries. The Institute of
Medicine has estimated that as many as 14%of all Americans may be di
sabled at any given time.
