From the first day of school, she easily transitioned into leading my Spanish Il and IV classrooms by creating ice breakers and presenting vocabulary and grammar lessons. From day one, | had complete confidence that she would do a wonderful job, and she has excelled in my expectations. Teaching and developing logical lessons come very naturally to Marietta, She designs and paces lessons that allow students to be actively engaged in relevant material. The activities are very meaningful and allow students to see the Spanish language and culture come alive. She uses a variety of authentic resources. Some of these resources have been from songs, short movie or television clips, commercials, and news that are from Spanish- speaking countries. They are related to a grammar or vocabulary topic from our current unit. Other authentic resources she used in class were videos that she asked her friends and host family from Spain to make of them speaking in Spanish about their house and rooms of the house during a unit in Spanish II on the home. This allowed students to compare and contrast homes in Spain with their own homes in the U.S., as well as hear native Spanish speakers. For Spanish IV, she had another Native Spanish speaker she knows make a video about airport and travelling during a unit on international travel. Students were able to see their vocabulary list come to life as well as see daily life and culture in Spain. | believe that experiences Marietta creates for students are encouraging them to want to stick with learning a foreign language, as well as want to travel and see other paris of the world. Marietta’s enthusiasm and efforts to create authentic resources have allowed students to connect with the language and culture so much better than traditional resources. Students have enjoyed her humor, positivity and creativity. They have expressed how much they will miss her. This shows what a strong connection she has had with the students. Throughout her student teaching experience, | have seen her show a genuine interest in students on a personal level which has proven to help them to connect with her. Marietta has a wonderful grasp of the Spanish language and communicates very well. She uses Spanish as much as possible and encourages students to speak and respond to her in ‘Spanish. Her high expectations are seen not only in her daily lessons, but also in her classroom management. Students are very clear about behavior expectations and because of this there have been very few behavior issues from students. If a student does misbehave, Marietta seeks out appropriate consequences and follows her Classroom Management Plan. Students are aware of this plan and it helps guide dialogue in resolving classroom issues. It has been such a pleasure working with Marietta. | will miss her positivity, humor, creativity, caring nature, and dedication. She will continue to do a wonderful job when she has her own classroom. | look forward to hearing about her success in her future classroom.
