Laura Veselovsky

Parent Letter
Dear Parent,
Hello! My name is Laura Veselovsky and I will be student teaching in the music room for this
quarter. I am working towards licensure in K-12 music in the post-baccalaureate program at
Viterbo University in La Crosse. I am a mother of two girls, Anastasia and Katya. Anastasia is a
freshman in high school this year and Katya is a fifth grade student. We, with my husband,
Philipp, live in La Crescent, Minnesota.
I lived in Russia a few times, which is where I met my husband, and learned Russian folksongs
and romances. I have sung those songs in classrooms where I talked to students about my
adventures in Russia and on stages over the years. I enjoy singing and acting, but I also love to
direct small plays and musicals and to teach music and theatre to children and adults.
My training is in songwriting and I studied Russian for five years in school. I have taught music
and theatre in private music schools and community programs for over 12 years. I taught
elementary music at the Dakota Area Community School last year, which was a great experience
for me.
My educational goals for my students are music literacy and an appreciation for all styles of
music. I teach students the fundamentals of music so that they can then make their own. We
work hard and have fun making great music. As a student teacher, I will be supporting your
children in various activities and then I will be teaching a unit, which I hope will be engaging
and fun for all.
I look forward to working with your children in the coming weeks. And I hope to also have a
chance to meet you sometime in this quarter.

Sincerely,
Laura Veselovsky
