Question 2: How effective is the

combination of your main product

with ancillary texts?

Digipak

On creating my digipak, I constructed a range of images in the form of various mood

boards in order to recognise the differentiating images from one another and decide
on the most successful outcome for each panel. Once the mood boards had been
created and on constructing further feedback and research into my target audience, I
arranged a photo shoot with the main female character within the music video,
placing her within the costume of the Little Red Riding Hood character that we had
previously crafted within the production. By conducting further research into the target
audience and gaining their feedback upon looking at the mood boards that I had
created, I found that the most recognisable and popular character within the video
also, was that of Little Red Riding Hood and thus choosing this character for the
panels of my digipak, indicated a good starting point in terms of the audiences
psychographics.

PANEL 1: My first panel consists of a close up

image of the main female characters face, when

looking to her right of the camera, appearing to
have her attention occupied by something at a
considerable distance away, a theme that we added
throughout our music video, also, when we see the
Little Red Riding Hood character showing herself
as almost paranoid as she is shot in an over the
shoulder angle as she looks behind herself, and
additionally, at a low angle show where she looks
over the camera, again, to something at a distance
away. This idea therefore makes the digipak
images coherent with the video as this is from
which I took the inspiration from, along side my
mood board. Additionally, the close up image of
Red Riding Hood, features the red lipstick and the
red hood, relating to a common and reoccurring
motif that I have included; the colour red, which
also runs throughout the music video within the
different costumes. This idea relates to the
suggestions from Andrew Goodwin, in the way that
he says, within successful music videos there is
quite often the notion of looking at the female body
and thus by adding the colour red, to the lips of the
female character, the image then conforms to this
idea with the colour red showing connotations of
passion and promiscuity yet also adventure and
excitement in the way that it is a primary colour.

PANEL 2:

My second Panel consists of a raw

sketch of the female character, 'Gretel', by adding
this image in harmony also, with panel 3, I was able
to create another relationship with our music video
production. Additionally, the sketch on panel two
adds to the reoccurring motif that is noticed
throughout the other panels and also the video
itself, via the colour red. Within the video, this idea
runs through the mise en scene, costume and
locations. For example, within the first panel, as
mentioned previously, I added the affect of 'red
lipstick' to the characters profile, however within this
sketch for panel 2, the red theme is featured within
the braces that the character wears. This is also an
accurate depiction of the costume that the real
female wears within the video.
The drawings that I have created for my two inside
panels also reference the artwork form Walt Disney
in the way that the cartoon style of drawing is bright
and bold. However, the use of contemporary
fashion on these drawn models, allows for a
potential modern, demographic to identify.

Panel 3: My third panel, for my digipak production,

compliments both my music video production and
my previous panels due to the again, reoccurring
motif. The red theme runs through this panel via
that character that the sketch consists of; panel
three features an accurate drawing of Little Red
Riding Hood and thus the red shoes and Hood
relate to the ongoing theme throughout the video,
which also features such items within the costume
of said character.
In further addition to this idea, my sketches are
placed upon a simple white background in order to
avoid distractions from the characters themselves.
This relates to our music video in the way that the
locations that we chose also had the same effect
on the audience, allowing the characters to be the
most viewed aspect of the scenes. An example of
this within a real media production is within the
images of those featured on the 'Gorillaz' first
album - 'Demon Days' where again, the character is
the main focus of each panel.

Panel 4: My forth Panel consists of an over the

shoulder image of the main female, Danielle, in
the character of Little Red Riding Hood again.
Therefore the reoccurring theme is present in
the form of the red Hood as it was in previous
panels. However, the final panel sees the
character in a wide open, natural space, which
relates to the locations within our video.
However, in order to relate my final panel
further with the music video, I constructed the
image with the use of a tree, allowing my track
listing to be aligned with this when creating the
edit of the image. This again relates to the
music video in the way that often, when the
female character of Little Red Riding Hood is
shot, she is in the naturalistic setting of a forest
or such similar scenery.

Magazine Advert

My magazine advert relates to my main production via the way that, also alike to the digipak images, I have
crafted the advert around a close up image of Danielle in the character of Little Red Riding Hood. The close
up image allows the audience to identify with the character as the image provides for a clear
characterization. This is similar to the way in which we shot the music video itself, as a production, in the
way that our production consist of many extreme/close ups of the characters as individuals making the
piece more personal and thus allowing the audience to, essentially, empathise or find themselves identified
with the characters.
The photograph that was used for the magazine advert was shot via a photo shoot that I constructed with
Danielle, the actress. Within this photo shoot, I ensured that the locations that were used were authentic
and thus related to my main production, therefore, taking photographs of Danielle/ Little Red Riding Hood,
in front of a tree, thus making the background of the image, the bark of the trunk, allowing for the folk genre
of the music to also be promoted via the natural imagery along side the links to the narrative. However, due
to the character of Little Red Riding hood wearing contemporary items such as the nose ring, this allows for
the hip hop side of the Fip Fok genre to be recognized.
The reoccurring motif of red throughout the music video production and the digipak was also featured here
via the red hood that the character is seen to be wearing and again, the red lipstick that the character is
wearing.
