What is MIS ?

An ‘ MIS ' is a planned system


of collecting , processing ,
storing and disseminating data
in the form of information
needed to carry out the
functions of management .
Role of MIS
• Role of MIS in business is to identfy the
information needs of management and
prepare a system to satisfy those
needs successfully.
• The main function of MIS is to gather
,sort analyze and use the information
for better decision making

operation level as well as the information
needs of individual , group and organization
• It helps the clerical personnel in the

reference on variety of documents
• It helps the junior management
personnel by providing the
operational data for planning,
scheduling and controlling

And helps them further in


decision-making at the operations
level to correct an out of control
situation
• The MIS helps the middle management
in short term planning, target setting
and controlling the business functions.

• The MIS helps the top management in


goal setting, strategic planning and
evolving the business plans and their
implementation
• The MIS satisfies the diverse needs
through a variety of systems such as
query system, analysis system, modeling
systems and decision support system
• The MIS helps strategic planning,
management control, operational control
and transaction processing
• MIS plays a very important role in creating
organization behavior which in turn sets
the goals for achievement
