InSonnet25,everlastingloveisimmunetotheneedforfameandfortune:Througha
forcefulsonnetstructureconcludingwithapowerfulcouplet,thepoetsmessageliveson.This
sonnetilluminatestheeffectsofbeingcaughtupinaworldoffameandhonorhowever,thepoet
noteshowhisloveisworthmorethananyofthathierarchy.WilliamShakespearesuseofa
problemdevelopedinhisthreequatrainsandeventuallysettledinhiscaptivatingcoupletclearly
stagesthepoetsangstagainstthehigherlifeandpeopleofhonorwhocontinuallyboastabout
theirpopularity.Thesonnetbeginswiththeissueearlyoninthefirstquatrainwherethepoet
noticesthateveryonethatcomesfromroyalty,fame,orhonorislookeduponmuchmoreand
greaterthanhe,whoisunlookdbecausehedoesnothaveanyofthat.

liesburied.Thisforciblesimileaccentuatestherealitythatultimatelycomesfromfameand
moneywhichisthelossofloveandcharacter,aswellasthosepeoplewillforeverswallowtheir
ownpride.Thecomparisonbetweenthemarigoldandthesunrepresentthatpridethatissooner
orlaterburiedwithinthehuman.
Intheend,theissueisresolvedasShakespearesayshecanavoidallofthese
complications.Shakespearesclosingcoupletembeddedinthissonnetportrayshowhisloveand
prideisallwithinhisbeloved,anditcannotberemoved:ThenhappyI,thatloveandam

othershearts.Thepoetswordscontinuetoliveonaswe,thereaders,continuetoexaminethem
withourminds,words,andvoices.Thepoetisultimatelygreaterthanallofthepopularitythat
henotesisnotworththecomplicationsintheend,andhiscompellingwordsarecarriedthrough
tohismanygenerationsofreaders.
