Cultural Diversity

The phrase 'Cultural Diversity' means a range of different societies or people

of different origins, religions and traditions all living and interacting together.
Malaysian has benefited from diversity throughout its long history and is currently
one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. But cultural diversity has
its own obstacles to breakthrough such as language barrier, implementation of
diversity and resistance to change.
The first challenge is language barrier. When you build a workforce with
employees from different cultures and countries, you increase the number of
communication filters and language barriers that impact internal and external
communication processes. Ineffective communication of key objectives results in
confusion, lack of teamwork, and low morale. So, usage of multinational language
should be practiced in offices for mutual understanding to overcome this case.
Other than that, implementation of diversity in the workplace policies will be
the struggling part in a management. This can be the overriding challenge to all
diversity advocates. Armed with the results of employee assessments and research
data, they must build and implement a customized strategy to maximize the effects
of diversity in the workplace for their particular organization. For example, a
customizable employee satisfaction survey can accomplish this assessment for your
company efficiently and conveniently. By doing so, this problem can be solved.
Besides that, resistance to change will be a major hurdle for managers. There
are always employees who will refuse to accept the fact that the social and cultural
makeup of their workplace is changing. As an example, the weve always done it
this way mentality silences new ideas and inhibits progress. So, managers should
consider the workers suggestion before he takes a new decision to avoid this
problem.
As a conclusion, taking full advantage of the benefits of diversity in the
workplace is not without its challenges. Companies that encourage diversity in the
workplace inspire all of their employees to perform to their highest ability.
Company-wide strategies can then be executed; resulting in higher productivity,
profit, and return on investment. So, cultural diversity should be practiced by every
companies and overcome its challenges to succeed.
