Activity Sheet
Activity Title: Treasure Hunt
Statement of Purpose: To provide a sensory experience that will be enjoyable as well as
beneficial for the participants. The activity will work with fine motor skills through
digging and squeezing the play dough as well as calming.
Description: Participants will watch a video about a pirate/treasure hunting. They will
then each be given a treasure chest full of play dough with treasures buried within.
Participants will be given time to dig through their treasure chest searching for the lost
treasure. They may work on their own or with a friend. At the end of the session,
participants will come together to discuss the activity and will be given a chocolate coin
for their participation.
Population: Children
Equipment and Materials: play dough, little treasure items, story, chocolate coins,
newspaper pirate hats
Space Requirement: 2-12
Time Required: 30 minutes
Prerequisite skills and knowledge: ability to have minimal discussion, ability to sit and
watch a short video, ability to dig through play dough
Preparations: ensure that you have enough play dough for everybody, mix the treasures
into the play dough, make newspaper pirate hats, and prepare the room so that the
tables/chairs are in a circle, purchase candy.
Introduction:
1. Welcome and greet group
2. Explain the pirate theme of the program
3. Ice Breaker
a. Go around the circle and have everybody say their name like a pirate
4. Explain to the group what we will be doing
a. Read story
b. Dig for treasure
c. Spend extra time sculpting with the play dough
5. See if anybody has any questions
6. Pass out hats
7. Begin the activity
Implementation/Active Engagement:
8. Have the group sit in a circle on the floor
9. Watch video
10. Ask simple questions about the video
11. Have group move back to the tables
12. Pass out play dough
13. Allow the group to dig through the play dough to find treasure
14. Spend any extra time sculpting with the play dough
Closure/ Processing:

15. Debrief the activity:


a. Did you like the activity?
b. How did it make you feel?
c. Did you stay to yourself or play with friends?
16. Thank group for participation
17. Tell group that they did a great job
18. Pass out chocolate coins
19. Adjourn the group
