Lesson: Nature walk at Woldumar Nature Center
*Permission slips we sent home 3 weeks in advance with the fee listed. Fees are due one
week prior to the trip*
Curriculum Standards: Woldumar Nature Center has created programs like the nature walk that
we will take as a class while there. These programs have been adapted to fulfill the Michigan
Department of Education Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs).
Objective: Our objective today will be to examine nature using our five senses.
Assessment: To assess this lesson, I will have students in groups after we return to school get in
their table groups and compare the lists of observations they came up with. I also will have the
group draw a mural of what they saw earlier that day to include part of our art time.
Lesson: As we walk on the field trip I will have students fill out this worksheet (below) about
their experiences with the different senses during the walk. In science we have learned about the
different senses that human beings have and now they will get the chance to experience them in
nature while listening to the tour guide from Woldumar Nature Center teach us about different
things in the environment!
