GENERIC DATASOURCES

Steps to be followed in R/3 side


1.Three ways to create generic datasources
* Table / View
* SAP Query
* Function Module
using Table / View
# goto se11 and give a name for a view and click create.
# only transparent tables or datacbase views can be used create generic extracto
rs, so
select database view.
# In TAble / Join Conditions tab, give the name of the table.
# In view feilds tab click table feilds button and select the required feilds an
d
click copy button.
# Click Activate.
2. Create Generic Datasource:
tcode : RSO2.
# give a name for datasource and click create.
# then select the respective application component. ie mm,sd ,etc wrt to created
tables
# In View / Table tab, Give the name of the view created in se11 and click save.
# once save button is clicked, the extract structures for the datasource is crea
ted.
# click on save.
3. Testing Generic DAta source
tcode: RSA3.
# give the name of the created data source and click extraction or press f8.
# it shows no. of records extracted.
tcode : RSA6.
check whether the datasource is availble under the application component
for replication or not.
Steps to be follwed in BI Side.
1. selecting the source system.
# goto RSA1.
# Click datasorce. and select ss as sap. (right click on datasource icon on top
left)
2. Replicate Metadata.
# right click the application component and select replicate metadata to regener
ate all the
datasrcs in BI. it asks for version 3.x or rsds. select rsds so as to be avail
able in 7.0

# once replicated, the datasrc 'll be availble under the appl component. double
click on it
and activate the datasrc.
3. Create Info Package.
