A principios de junio en todas las comunidades espaolas se celebra el examen de
selectividad que realizan todos los estudiantes que desean acceder a estudios universitarios.
Es la madre de todas las evaluaciones finales con las que termina el curso, y una de las
ltimas si finalmente se aprueba la reforma educativa que impulsa el ministro Jos Ignacio
Wert. El ao pasado fueron casi 200.000 los alumnos que se examinaron en junio y otros
45.000 en la convocatoria extraordinaria de selectividad. Y este ao probablemente sean
algunos ms.
Para ellos (y para el resto de alumnos que se enfrentan a los exmenes finales) es
poca de nervios, de atracones de estudio, falta de sueo y de familias enteras pendientes de
los resultados. Unas situaciones, muchas veces, difciles de manejar.
La ansiedad es una reaccin emocional que nos activa o pone en alerta ante la
posibilidad de obtener un resultado negativo; por ejemplo, la posibilidad de suspender,
explica el catedrtico de Psicologa de la Complutense Antonio Cano. El secreto para
combatir la ansiedad ante los exmenes es centrarse en la tarea (leer las preguntas,
analizarlas, tomar decisiones, responderlas, ponerse en el lugar del profesor que corregir) y
no en la amenaza (voy a suspender, tendra que haber estudiado ms, si suspendo me
muero). Adems, es conveniente dormir bien. Es importante no utilizar tranquilizantes o
cualquier otra sustancia, que podra tener unos efectos diferentes a los esperados en una
situacin as, advierte el especialista.

Before the grass has thickened on the roadside verges and leaves have started growing on the trees is a

remember travelling abroad and being saddened by the plastic bags, discarded bottles and soiled
nappies at the edge of every road. Nowadays, Britain seems to look at least as bad. What has gone
wrong?
The problem is that the rubbish created by our increasingly mobile lives lasts a lot longer than before.
If it is not cleared up and properly thrown away, it stays in the undergrowth for years; a semipermanent reminder of what a polluted little country we have now. Firstly, it is estimated that 10
billion plastic bags have been given to shoppers. These will take anything from 100 to 1,000 years to
rot. However, it is not as if there is no solution to this. A few years ago, the Irish government
introduced a tax on non-recyclable carrier bags and in three months reduced their use by 90%. When
he was a minister, Michael Meacher attempted to introduce a similar arrangement in Britain. The
