March 31, 2014 ‘To Whom it May Concern: My name is Kristin English and I am a high school mathematics teacher in Williamstown, West Virginia. I have taught mathematics full- time for eight years and have instructed grades 8 through 12. I had the privilege of having Chris Kenny as a field experience student in my 9 grade Algebra I class. Chris was in his senior year at Marietta College and was in my classroom for his final field experience. Therefore, Chris was required to teach several lessons, interact with the students regularly, as well as completing many other classroom tasks. From the time that I spent working with Chris, it was very clear to see his passion for education, the field of mathematics, and for helping students. He was very dependable and effectively completed all tasks in a timely manner. Chris puts his whole heart into his lessons and is willing to put in the extra time that it often takes outside of the classroom. I was impressed that Chris had a great understanding that to make students truly appreciate the math they are leaming it should mean something to them personally so that they can see its usefulness in real life. While teaching in my classroom, Chris created an assessment in which he researched information about our student population and used that data to create questions that had personal relevance to the students, The students reacted very positively to the time and effort that Chris had put into making math relevant and they loved using true data from their school. Ihave continued to use this assessment in every Algebra class that I have taught since Chris was in my class. I wholeheartedly recommend Chris Kenny for a position as a math teacher. He is devoted, determined, and willing to do what it takes to be a good teacher. Chris puts the student's needs first and would be an excellent addition to any school’s staff.
