DNA MODEL

ASSIGNMENT
On your own or with a partner construct a free-standing, three
dimensional DNA model using the materials of your choice.
Please avoid food products which can spoil. Candy is ok
(though avoid chocolateit tends to melt or become icky).
This is a major project and will count as a Category 1 grade
(the same category as quizzes and testsif you miss this
assignmentit is like obtaining a zero on a quiz or test).
REQUIREMENTS:
Include a key
- What does each piece represent? (ex. Green gum drop = Cytosine) (1pt)
- Your key should include: (1 pt each = 6 pts)
Cytosine
Guanine
Adenine
Thymine
Phosphate
Deoxyribose
- This key should be mounted on a piece of construction paper, foamboard, etc. (1
pt)
- Key should be typed or handwritten NEATLY (1 pt)
Indicate the 5 ends and the 3 ends (type) (2 points)
Must include each base: (4 points)
- Cytosine - Guanine
- Adenine - Thymine
Include a minimum of 8 base pairs in your model
- There are 8 pairs (.5 each = 4 points)
- Pairs are combined correctly (.5 each = 4 points)
Industry
- Each molecule should be a different color (2 points)
- The model should be free-standing. This means it must be able to stand/hang on
its own. It must not fall over! (4 points)
- The model should be created neatly and show effort and craftsmanship (7 points)
- Nucleotides are connected in a correct manner (.25 pts each nucleotide = 4 points)

TOTAL PROJECT WORTH: 40 POINTS

Please hand in a role sheet, listing how each team member contributed to this
assignment. This should be typed or handwritten neatly in blue or black ink.
Remember: you are working with your partner as a team on this assignment. Thus,
there should be an equal share of the workload. Unequal work distribution will be
reflected in your grade.
