If the duration of the smallest element in a telegraph code is 20

msec. calculate the speed in baud, charecters per sec, and words per minute in (1)Morse
code (2) Cable code (3) 5 unit synchronous code (4) 7.5 unit teleprinter code.
1. An operator transmits Morse code in such a speed that the pause between two
successive words is 0.5 sec. What is his speed in words per minute?
2. A Morsse operator is transmitting at a speed of 20 words per minute. Whate is
the duration of his dot and what is the speed in baud?
3. With the double current cable code the speed of transmission is 200 words per
minute. Calculate the speed in bauds and the fundamental frequency of
signaling.
4. A teleprinter employing 7.5 unit start-stop code is transmitting at a speed by
a) 60 wpm b) 75 wpm c) 100wpm. Calculate in each case the speed in bauds
and duration of stop element.
5. A certain teleprinter using a 7.5 unit code is transmitting 400 letters per min.
On an average a word contains 5 letters and the adjacent words are separated
by 1 space signal. Calculate the transmission rate in Bauds and word/min.
6. The line coil of a Siemens relay has 1250 turns and a resistance of 120 ohms.
Its inductance is 30*10^-8H per turn, operating excitation is 2 amp-turn. It is
receiving a teleprinter signal of 50 bauds speed. The signal is assumed to be
rectangular with an amplitude of 1.2 volts. Calculate the operate lag of the
relay neglecting eddy current effect. The transmit time is 1 msec. If the release
lag due to eddy current is assumed to be half the theoretical operate lag, what
is the percentage distortion of the generated teleprinter signal in the local
circuit?
