SETTING UP INSTRUCTIONS McCORMICK’ 1A-60 cousin: and Ginder Blade { 1 { 4 INTRODUCTION ‘The McCormick 1A-60 Leveling and Grader Blade is designed for use with Farmall Super A, Super A-1, 100, and 130 Tractors with hy- draulic Touch-Control or Farmall A Tractors with manual control. The manual control con= sists of a raising lever and rockshaft (650 758 ROL). Either of these lifting systems causes the blade to operate in the same manner. It is not necessary to add or rearrange any parts to have the blade assembly fit either lifting system, No special tractor wheel widths are re~ quired but the narrow rear wheel setting is preferred since in this position all wheels track within the patch cleared by the blade. A flexible clevis is incorporated in the front position for clearing snow and grading where the blade needs this flexibility. It is designed to be used with the blade wearing shoes where the blade must follow the con- tour of the surface being graded, This clevis is attached between the front lifting lever and the lifting straps by drilled pins. The shock spring unit serves a dual pur= pose. As the spacing link it controls the slope of the blade, and also, when the tractor is driven forward and the cutting edge strikes a solid object, the coil spring compresses, allowing the blade to "give" backward, thus absorbing the hammerlike blow. A rigid blade soon breaks at some point if there is no es~ cape from these shocks. There are two positions for mounting the blade to the tractor: forward of the front wheels, or beneath the tractor engine be~ tween the front and rear wheels. The forward position is used primarily for snow plowing, cleaning feed lots, leveling piles of soft dirt or sand, and lightweight dozer jobs. It should be noted that when the blade is suspended in the front position and forced to dig below the common ground level, a correction o lift to the blade is necessary because the front wheels of the tractor will follow downward into the new cut; thus without lifting action the bl might become stuck. The rear position {# used for controlled grading of all types. This sta bility and control over the depth of cut is due to the fact that the front.wheels are alway# on the old grade level and the rear wheels follow on the new level; thus the blade is suspended evenly between the front and rear wheels, When the blade is mounted in the rear position it can be set directly under the middle of the tractor or may be moved six inches to the right which places the edge of the blade ott side the tire line for close work along a wall or curbing. The cutting edge is bolted to the blade, thus making this part replaceable, Since the cut- ting edge receives constant wear, it is made of high carbon steel and is reversible so both edges may be used. ‘The Snow Extension Plate Attachment (Bpe- cial) is a lightweight plate that bolts to the upper edge of the blade to increase the helght so that the larger rolling mass of snow bullt up can be carried off to one side. We reserve ‘the right to make changes or add improvements at any time without incurring any obligation to make such changes on products sold previously. INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADJUSTING AND OPERATING ANGLING THE BLADE ‘The blade can be angled in three positions for general service: straight, or to the right or to the left 22 degrees. By this angled posi- tion the soil or snow is moved to one side of the tractor, To adjust for these positions, the index bolt that ties the blade supbort angle to the five-hole adjusting angle in the lifting arm assembly is moved to the selected hole as the blade support unit is pivoted around the king bolt located in the pivot angle of the lifting arm assembly. PITCHING THE BLADE The blade can be pitched up or down 10 de~ grees at either end for terracing. To adjust, the pins located in the ends of the blade sup- port channel are removed one at a time, thus requiring only one man who can then lift the loosened end of the blade to the desired pitch. After replacing the pin, the same procedure is repeated at the opposite end of the blade, thus completing the tilting of the blade to give the pitch desired. TILTING THE BLADE There are three different tilting angles to change the slope of the blade as it enters the ground to dig. These three selections give a range from a scooping action, when the cut- ting edge is thrust forward, to a spreading action, when the cutting edge is drawn back to a vertical position. This pitch is controlled by the three-hole adjuster bar which is part of the shock spring unit, This unit is located underneath the blade support angle and is bolted, in one of three holes, to the adjuster bar bracket which is welded to the blade port angle. The other end of the shock spring unit extends forward and is joined to the blade by a pin, Do not loosen or dtow op the call spring by the shock spring bolt and nut 10 glve verictions to the tilting of the blade, ALWAYS USE THE THREE-HOLE SELECTION FOR ‘THE DIFFERENT VARIATIONS IN THE TILTING OF THE BLADE. INSTRUCTIONS. Remove all wires and arrange the parts conveniently. Lubricate all moving ports os you proceed and see that they work frealy. Bolts and pin must be used in the holes in which they are found, or in the parts to which they are attached, unless otherwise shown, STOWAGE BRACKET Hydraulic extension th In an effort to save the operator valuable time and labor the stowage bracket for this grader blade is provided, Se lust 2. This bracket {s used on all tractors equipped with the Fast-Hitch, It holds the hydraulic extension arm and the connecting rod on the tractor while the Fast-Hitch draft link is attached to the Tractor Touch=Control arm, By means of this bracket the grader blade parts shown. Inillust. 1 can be left on the tractor while the Fast-Hitch is being used, but all other parts of the grader blade must be removed. When the Fast-Hitch is not used and the operator wants the grader blade underneath the tractor, he must remove the Fast-Hitch Graft link from the Touch-Control arm, Then remove the draft link from the Fast-Hitch bail and store it ina convenient place. The bail assembly is fastened up underneath the tractor foot platform. The grader blade parts are then attached to the tractor as shown Inillos. 5, FOR SETTING UP ‘Shaded portions Inthe illustrtlos led: these m show ports to be be placed on the machine In the otder numbered, Whenever the terms "left" and "right" are used, it should be understood to mean from a ion behind and facing the machine. MOUNTING THE BLADE IN THE FRONT POSITION Most. 2 1, Attach the pivot axle hanger to the tractor mounting casting by means of the long bolt, the hanger bolt spacer locator andthe two pivot axle hanger bolt spacers, The pipe spacer keeps the flat spacers from working to the center of the casting. After inserting the pipe spacer in the casting, place one flat spacer at each end and, while holding the hanger in place, insert the long bolt from the inside as shown, i ee 2, The front lifting lev- er is aiso mounted on this bolt. Place it on the bolt as shown, Put the bushing on the boit, then a lock washer, and tighten the nut securely. 3.
