1919:

February 1918:

-- Woman suffrage is granted in Luxembourg,


Netherlands, Belgium, and Ukraine.

The British Government passed an act giving women the vote if they were
over the age of 30 and either owned property or rented for at least 5/year,
or were the wife of someone who did. As a result, 8.5 million women
became entitled to vote in the General Election of 1918.

-- New Zealand allows women to


stand for election.
-- Sweden grants suffrage
with some restrictions.

1918:
-- Canada gives women the vote in most provinces by
federal law. Quebec is not included. Native women were
not included.
-- Germany and the Russian Federation grant women the
vote.
-- Austria adopts woman suffrage.
-- Women given full suffrage in Latvia, Poland, and
Estonia.
-- Women granted limited voting rights in Ireland.

1919:
Lady Astor [was elected to] the British House of
Commons[;] she became the first European
woman to take her seat in a national political
body" (Wilkinson, 143).
