Chikungunya

Chikungunya is a viral disease that is spread by mosquitoes. It causes

fever and severe joint pain. Other symptoms include muscle pain,
headache, nausea, fatigue and rash.

The disease is trasmitted by the same mosquitoes involved in the

dengue transmision (Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus); also shares
some clinical signs with dengue, and can be misdiagnosed in areas where
dengue is common.

There is no cure for the disease. Treatment is focused on relieving the

symptoms.

Chikungunya
Arthritis or Chikungunya
Fever (set
short CHIK ) is a relatively rare form of fever virus , caused by
an alphavirus that is transmitted by vector bites the mosquito Aedes
aegypti . Recent research by the Pasteur Institute in Paris suggest that the virus
has suffered a mutation that has become liable to be transmitted by Aedes
albopictus (Asian Tiger Mosquito). This was the cause of the plague in
the Indian Ocean and a threat on the Mediterranean coast, after an outbreak
in Ravenna ( Italy ) in September 2007 , which has prompted urgent action by
health authorities in the region
