University Introduction
University History Info:
Banaras Hindu University was established in the year 1916 under
the B.H.U. Act, 1915 and has been a major education imparting
institution for students coming from all parts of India and aboard. It
is the largest residential university in Asia and one of the largest in
the World. University is situated in the city of Varanasi, Uttar
Pradesh, one of the holiest cities in India. It is renowned for its
excellence in education and research field.
Some Facts About the University:

Founding father of the University is Madan Mohan Malviya,

also known as Mahamana. He was a visionary, an imminent
educationist, politician and was four time president of Indian
National Congress.
University has following components: 4 Institutes, 14 Faculties
and over 140 departments.
Total students enrolment exceeds over 20,000 and students
come from all over the World to BHU.
University has two campuses, Main Campus situated near the
banks of Ganges River in southern part of Varanasi and South
Campus at Barkachha, Varanasi.

College ranking: India and abroad

India Today ranked University number one in Top 50

Universities in India of 2013 Ranking.
IIT BHU is ranked amongst the top ten Institutes in India for
Engineering; Institute of Agricultural Sciences in amongst
top five Institutes for Agricultural studies.

Admission Info

BHU conducts undergraduate UET and postgraduate (PET) for

admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate course
respectively nationally. This happens normally in the month of
May-June.
Admission to Engineering and Pharmacy course is done
through JEE and GATE entrance exams.
Admission to MBA and MIBA is done through CAT Scores
Admission to Medical Course is done through PMT Exam
For Ph.D., NET (National Eligibility Test) or CRET (Common
