Is the Sunni-Shiite conflict in Iraq really about Religion?

For the past 1,400 years, there has been tension between the Sunnis and
Shiites. Many people believe that it is due to their different religious beliefs, the key
theological difference being over who should have succeeded the Prophet
Mohammed, however it is actually due to political rivalries. Even today the conflict
is more driven by the struggle for power more than anything else.
