Philosophy of Education

My philosophy is inspired by Maria Montessori and her practices and theories. Maria
Montessori said We discovered that education is not something which the teacher
does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human
being. I think this is extremely important and relevant. Dr. Montessoris methods
have been tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the
world. She believed that the child is naturally eager for knowledge.
Like Dr. Montessori, I also believe that the child is naturally eager to learn. When a
child is provided a safe and nurturing environment, they want to focus more on
learning and less on their needs being met. I cannot stress enough how important it
is for a child to be in an environment that promotes language, cognitive, physical,
and social development. I believe that a child needs to be in an environment that
challenges them both cognitively and physically. I believe that a teachers role
should be minimal. The teacher can be an initiator and should challenge the
children. It is important for a teacher to take a step back and make sure that each
childs needs are being met. Children learn in different ways and different paces. It
is the job of the teacher to adapt to each child and situation. A childs family is very
important to their learning and the family must be involved. It is the job of the
teacher to make sure that the childs families feel included and involved in their
childs learning experiences.
