Seven Active Learning Websites

1. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/

This is a website that I use frequently throughout the year for Math games, but as I am
spending some more time exploring, I am noticing that there are many other games,
including Brain Games! There are great math games on this site that my students in the
past have loved playing. One concept that is stressed in 3rd grade is their fluency with
math facts. This site offers several games that help with their fluency.

2. http://www.coolmath4kids.com/

This is another website that I use frequently throughout the year for Math games. This
website offers more math concepts than the Sheppard Software site but also includes
games that help with fact fluency. This site also offers Brain Benders where they kids
have logic puzzles they can solve.

3. http://www.funbrain.com/

Fun Brain is a website that I have just recently discovered. I like it because it has Math
games (we play math games several times a week), but it also has other subjects. There
is a reading section that has online books and another section that also has reading
games. I did not use any reading games in my classroom last year but am going to try to
find a way to incorporate them this year. I think it will help solidify some of the grammar
concepts that they struggle with.

4. http://www.softschools.com/mathg.jsp

Yet another website that I use for math games! What I like about this website is that it
offers two to four digit addition and subtraction. It also has many other math concepts
and puzzles that the students like to do. Another feature that I like is that it has a
worksheet generator for teachers to create worksheets!

5. http://www.mathgametime.com/grade/3rd-grade

Math Game Time is another website that I discovered through creating my Symbaloo. I
think this is another great website that I will be using in my classroom when my students
are playing math games. One of the games I really liked was Division Derby. It is a
game that helps them with their division facts. The cool thing about this game is that
they can play through an online group so they are playing against other students. I think
this helps motivate them through competition and helps them with their fact fluency.

6. http://www.aaamath.com/grade3.htm

AAA Math is a wonderful math resource for my 3rd grade students. I really like how the
site is organized. It has a list of different concepts that the students can choose from
and then it gives the students a short explanation of that concept and then a practice at
the bottom. It is great websites for students at different levels because they (or I) can
choose the concept that best fits their needs.

7. http://www.abcya.com/third_grade_computers.htm
The last site that I chose was ABCya. We used this website a few times last year, but I
plan on using it more this year. After exploring through it a bit more, there are some
great activities found in this website. One of my favorite games was called Parts of
Speech Asteroids. It is a game where they shoot the asteroid that matches the part of
speech the rocket shows. My students struggle with parts of speech and I think this
would be a great way to help solidify the concept.
