As teachers, we should be continually assessing our students progress in our

classroom. We need to be concerned not only with the final/summative assessment, but
also how we informally assess students and check for understanding. This way we can
check to see if we need to adjust our teaching methods or give the student extra help and
scaffolding.
I will be using formal, informal, and summative assessments in my classroom.
There is an assessment that will assist everyone who is involved in the classroom
including students, parents and guardians, and the school and district. All of the forms
need to be used because they all are integral in telling us different information about our
students understanding. I believe informal assessments are simple checks for
understanding of our students that need to be used every day in every class. More formal
assessments in my classroom would be activities or homework that students may receive
either participation or credit points for. Summative assessments would be used at the end
of a unit or lesson to get a final comprehension check. One summative assessment that
will be used by the school is the SAGE test. This will test students in language arts, social
studies, math, and sciences. For my language arts students, they will be tested on their
reading and writing skills. From speaking to the language arts teachers at my student
teaching site school, they emphasized the need for a lot of writing practice since their
students last year scored lowest on this section. I want to provide a lot of writing practice
with assessment feedback to my students to prepare them for this test.
