ePortfolio Assignment # 2

Reflective writing paragraphs.

2. How has Milton Bennetts model of Intercultural Sensitivity help you understand
ways in which we can improve our skills in communicating, dealing and respecting
others from different cultures? How have you, yourself evolved in the DMIS scale
through your participation, readings, films, discussion, in this class?
I learnt a lot from Milton Bennetts 6 steps. Without even knowing them, I
had already been putting them into practice since I moved here. I would say I am
firmly in stage 5 in progress of moving into stage 6. Only by watching the video did I
understand this, Im nice to everyone and accepting to a point which I have worked
on since the video. I myself have evolved in seeing the truth of how people make
judgments about others without even getting to know them, I wanted to and have
over come this and am now willing to talk to anyone and not be so quick to judge.
4. What impact did the assignments, discussion, interview and writing an Immigrant
Story did have on your understanding of immigration/immigrants in the U.S. and
around the world? Did they challenge your way of thinking or assumptions?
The more I have learned about immigrants in the US and around the world,
makes me want to educate those people who know nothing. Ill admit I used to see
people the same as most do but taking this class allows me to see clearly now. People
are people, no matter where they are from, if they are in the USA they have a right
as a human to be there. If they are not here legally, its because they have no choice
and need help, they are not here to steal jobs and such. They are here because in the
past America based themselves as the beacon of hope for all who need it, I beacon
not so easily forgotten but easily corrupted and twisted.
5. How does this ePortfolio assignment illustrate the growth/change/progression youve
had in this class?
I used to live in the America is great area etc, but now I live in the grey area. I see
what America has done to get here and who they have taken from and although I dont
agree with it, whats done is done and you can only move forward. I plan to help all those
I can, talk to anyone that wants to chat, teach them about Bennetts 6 stages and see how
many lives I can change using the pay it forward method.
