FLUENCY STRATEGY: Echo Reading


Echo Reading is a rereading strategy in which the teacher will read
aloud to the students while tracking the print for children to see.
After, the student will imitate, or echo the teacher.
4RF4. Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support
comprehension.
1. Write down sentence on a sheet of paper:
a. Wait! she said, can you please help me get the
cookies?
2. Tell your child that you will read the sentence first and must
imitate you reading the sentence once you are done
reading.
3. Place in front of your child so that he can see the sentence.
4. Parent place finger on first word.
5. Begin reading as you track each word said aloud with your
finger. (Ensure to read sentence with expression and paying
attention to punctuation).
6. Student reads the sentence.
7. Repeat until your child repeats accurately.
8. Provide your child with multiple examples or by accessing
the links below.
