According to Oxford Dictionary, greed is an intense and selfish desire for

something, especially wealth, power, or food. In my opinion, greed is the term
that refers basically to the desire of having more and more money and all that
follows is only the consequence of that desire.
The fact that the more we have, the more we want is the truth known from ages.
For me, only a person who have never had money and the opportunity to feel
what it is like to be rich is able to liberate himself from the greed. As we look
closer to the people in the higher levels of society, it is easy to see that all their
efforts are concentrated on the willingness to earn more and more in order to
fulfil the bank accounts and desires that in fact are the bottomless pits -there is
always a better car to buy or the bigger and more luxurious house to build. At the
beginning our aims and expectations are low, but the higher we are and the more
we earn, the more we want to have, and in order to achieve all these goals we
have to get better stand or office and -in consequence- power. Its not the
coincidence that all people who have the influence are rich people -politics,
businessmen, celebrities- nowadays if you dont have money, you are nobody. As
a result of that rats race, the main effect of humans greed, we have all kind of
aberrations, moral decay and loose of humanity. We dont care about others, we
care only about ourselves and about what we can do to satisfy our greed that
needs more and more all the time. Something as important as human dignity has
lost completely its meaning - reach people can have and do what they want with
impunity, if you are poor you represent worse breed.
To sum up, the greed is the worst thing in the whole world. It leads people to lose
all the right senses, like for example empathy or selflessness. We no longer care
about other people, what we see is only a self-success and our own interest.
Despite the fact that Im an atheist, I agree with the Bible in one point- the greed
is one of the most serious and dangerous sins, as it can lead our species to the
self-destruction in the name of money and power.
