Shop Cabling Project
My shop was tasked with rewiring our entire network. I was elected by my teachers to lead and facilitate this project so that it
ran smoothly. Each junior worked with a freshman to complete an assigned section of the shop. I worked with another junior and two
freshmen to create a map depicting where all the new cable would run and a new naming scheme for the networking equipment so that
every cable would have a label to make everything easily identifiable. We also measured the dimensions of the room to have an
accurate depiction of the shop so we knew how much cable we would need to run across long distances, such as from local switches to
the server. This map, shown on the next page, was distributed to every group so that they knew how they had to wire their portion of the
network. I decided to assign each group a switch to work on that had 4 workstations connected to it.
There were a few difficulties that I had to resolve during this project. One was a lack of tools for all the groups. We had a
minimal amount of punch down tools for all the groups to use. To fix this, I had different groups do different steps so that fewer groups
required the punch down tools at the same time. This worked well so that everyone was working diligently at all times.
Attached is a map that I generated. As stated above, I didnt work alone on the map.
