French
Government

The French Government is


Republican. They go by the Fifth
Republic which is their
constitution. The Fifth Republic
was established on October 4,
1958. They practice executive
power in the country. The
President of the French Republic
appoints a Prime Minister who
forms a government. The
President can serve up to two
terms. The government is made
up of the Prime Minister, who is
in charge of the government.
Councils of Ministers which help
the President and the French
Parliament.

Branches of Government
Executive Branch
The President is the head of state
and the executive branch. He is
also the commander of the
military and determines policies
helped by the Council of Ministers.
Presidents chooses whoever he
wants for Prime Minister, who
always reports to the President.

Judicial Branch
Ministers of Justice have the
power of running the justice
system in France. This branch is
also very independent from the
executive and legislative branch.

The Constitutional Council


This council is part of France to
determine the constitutionality of
the new legislation. It has
authority to reject a bill before
becoming a law, if it is
unconstitutional. The council is
made up of nine members. The
president, leader of the National
Assembly, and Senate. They each
can choose three members to join.

Socialist Party and is governed by
this party in 2015.

Minister and was appointed to lead the
government on March 31, 2014. He is
also a member of the Cabinet Council of
State in France.
