Sustainable Architecture Lessons from the Past


A Public Forum will be presented by the NSW Architects Registration Board in partnership with
Wagga Wagga City Council and hosted by the Museum of the Riverina, Wagga Wagga on
Wednesday 30 June 6.00pm 8.00pm.
The focus of the forum will examine energy-efficient strategies that were practised in traditional
rural architecture are reappearing in contemporary sustainable architecture. Special guest and
internationally acclaimed Australian architect, Peter Stutchbury will discuss these issues with
reference to his recent work including his award winning design of Deepwater Woolshed near
Wagga Wagga. Speakers will also include Peter Mould, the NSW Government Architect, Ian
Grant and Colby Farmer from Wagga Wagga City Council and Ian Innes from the Historic
Houses Trust.
This forum is being held in conjunction with the Historic Houses Trust travelling exhibition at the
Museums Historic Council Chambers Built for the Bush: Green Architecture of Australia
which explores some of the energy efficient features of Australias 19th Century country homes
and the reappearance of many of these traditional practices in contemporary green architecture.
Built for the Bush, now on exhibition until 18 July. Entry is free. An exhibition from the NSW
State Cultural Institutions and sponsored by the NSW Architects Registration Board.
