Milan Cathedral

by Zane Roshe

The Milan Cathedral or sometimes called Duomo di Milano is a place of peace and worship. The cathedral
took five centuries to complete from 1386 until the early 19 th century. The cathedral has about 135 spires,
with a statue showing important people in Milans history and characters from the bible. The tallest spire is
357ft and holds the most important symbol of Milan Cathedral.
Other cathedrals in Europe have a campanille or a bell tower but the Milan Cathedral does not. They also
are home to one of the oldest musical symbol in Milan since 1402, the Capella Musicale. They sing Italian
classic compositions.
Stained glass was the process of coloring glass and was probably invented in ancient Egypt. But stained
glass windows became a major art in the middle ages. They were an important feature in many churches
built in the Gothic style, which first started in the mid-1100. Church was the center of learning in the middle
ages. And also served the purpose of education since there were few books and very few people knew how
to read. The designs of a stained glass window are depicted scenes from the bible.
In conclusion stained glass windows and cathedrals have a big role in Milan culture and in the middle ages
and that there traditions will live on until this day.
