Using Correct MLA Format in the
Level Three IELP Reading and Writing Course
To correctly format a writing assignment using the MLA format guidelines in the Level
Three IELP Reading and Writing course, a student should do eight things. First, the paper should
have one-inch margins on all sides. Second, in the upper left hand corner of the page, the
students name (first and last), professors name, course title, and date should be included. Third,
within the right side of the pages header, the students last name and page number should be
included with one space in-between. Fourth, the paper should be double-spaced. Fifth, the first
line of each paragraph should be indented half an inch (you can set your tab key to do this).
Sixth, the font should be Times New Roman, and seventh, the font size should be 12 point.
Finally, within the paragraph or essay, only one space should come after punctuation marks. If a
student follows these guidelines, they will have succeeded in correctly using the MLA format in
the Level Three IELP Reading and Writing course.
