Dear Craig Blythe,
I am currently attending Lakeland Colleges University Transfer program,
studying to become an Elementary teacher. I am hoping to gain a thirty-hour
observational practicum placement at your school as a part of my EDFX 200 course. The
opportunity to observe you and your class will help me in understanding the complexities
of the career, and as well as some of the rewards.
Throughout high school I was an active member in SRC (student representative
council). During my time there we raised money to build a school and water well in
Sierra Leone. I also was a part of the group SSS (students standing strong) which
informed our peers as well as the community about bullying and how we as a community
can change and bring an end to bullying. What sparked my interest in this profession was
the fact that I have been a swimming instructor for four years and I really enjoy my job
and an Elementary Teacher has many similarities. Being a swimming instructor taught
me how to be confident, how to create lesson plans, how to handle parents, how to apply
myself in different ways so that all the adolescents are learning and how to manage a
large group of children.
With my past experiences I have become more confident, and feel very
comfortable in a classroom setting with multiple children to attend too. I am looking
forward to completing my observation practicum and the knowledge I gain from you. I
believe this practicum will show me important skills and what it takes to become a
successful teacher. Thank-you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Cassidy Soderlund
