Faulted Enclosure SPE Power Message
Faulted Enclosure SPE Power Message
Summary:
Issue:
'Faulted Enclosure SPE Power' message B1 during normal operation or after replacement of either a storage processor
or power supply in a CX4-120, CX4-240, or CX4-480 array
Upon installation, during normal operation or after the replacement of either a storage processor or power supply in a
CX4-120, CX4-240, or CX4-480 array, the following error is logged in the system FLARE log: 03/04/2010 00:59:53
N/A
(2580)Storage Array Faulted Enclosure SPE : Faulted Enclosure SPE Power B1 : The SP cannot access the
component because the System Management Bus is faulted. Contact your service provider for assistance.
(The error indicates Power B1, but the failure could occur on any of the XPE enclosure power supplies.)
Environment:
A number of midplanes have been shipped that exhibit a potential exposure to misaligned pins in the power supply
connectors. The misalignment of these pins can cause an open condition on some status signals used by the system
environmental monitoring software and could result in the above error reported in the FLARE logs.
Resolution:
If the "Faulted Enclosure SPE Power" error is noted in the FLARE logs after any maintenance work involving power
supplies or storage processors, it will be necessary to compare the serial number of the midplane to the referenced serial
number in the list linked to this solution (emc235731.xlsx). If a match is seen, a maintenance window should be
scheduled to replace the XPE enclosure. Replacement chassis should be requested through Logistics inventory.
Notes:
The midplane serial number can be obtained by running an SPCollect for either SP A or SP B and then opening the
SPx_prom_info.txt file within the SPCollect. Look for the Resume PROM Information for Midplane entry and note the
serial number.
