1. Writeadescriptionoftheinfographicyoucreated.
TheinfographicIcreateddemonstratedthestarkdifferencebetweenhomophones.Middle
schoolstudentslearnaboutthese.Usuallystudentsarepresentedwithalist,doacoupleof
activities,andmoveonbeingwarnedtheybetterknowthedifference.Thisgivesavisual
representationoftheactualdifference;thismayalsohelpELLstudentsandotherstudentswith
processingproblems.
2. Whataretheinfographic'sstrengths?
Theinfographiccreatesaclearpicturethatisvisuallyappealingandappealingtoothers.
Studentsareusedtoboringposters,thisisawaytoteachthemthesamematerialbutinamore
relatablemanner.Ifstudentsseethistypeofinformationonline,itmakessensetointroduce
infographicstotheclassroom.Myinfographicdoesnthavedatahowever,sothelikelihoodof
needingtoupdateisminimal.Itwouldbeappropriatetoupdateassomehomophonesaremore
confusingthanothersdependingontheschoolyear.
3. Whataretheinfographic'sweaknesses?
Creatorsarelimitedintheabilitytousethesamesentencestructureforallthehomophones.
However,ifonewascraftyenough,youcouldcreateaseriesofposterstohanginyourroom.
Youalsohavetoprintthem(pain)andlaminatethemtocreatealastingposter.Inadditionsome
infographicscanbecomeoutdatedratherquickly.
4. HowwouldIusethisismyteaching?
Thisisanewwaytopresentposterinformationthatisfunanddynamicforstudents.
Createaninfographicregardinghowmanystaffearnedacertaindegreeorchangedcareers.
Studentscanmakethemtotrackdataintheirclasses(student:teacherratio,teacher:admin,
homelunch:schoollunchetc.).Theycanbeusedinalldisciplinestoconveymessagesto
students.Infographicsarerelativelyeasytocreateandthereforeareappealingwhenupdatingis
minimal.
5. HowcouldIincorporateinfographicsintomyteaching?
Onecouldhavestudentscreatethistypeofgraphictocreateaclassbookofhomophones.
Whenastudentmakesamistake,simplyreferthemtothebooksotheycanfindtheirerrorand
usethecorrecthomophone.Infographicseasilyconveymessagesandcanhelpstudentsprocess
information,especiallyELLandSPEDstudents.Althoughyouarentmakingitspecificallyfor
thesestudentstheycaneasilyaccesstheinformation;otherstudentsintheclassalsohaveaccess
totheinformationpresented.
