I would like to introduce myself. My name is Andrea Johnson, and I currently
attend Drake University School of Education. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in 3D Design in 2011, and I am now pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Drake University. I will be student teaching at both the elementary and secondary levels in order to become K-12 certified in teaching art. I currently work as a secretary for an Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at a high school near Des Moines, while I take evening classes at Drake. The things that I have learned on the administration side are invaluable and will help me once I become a teacher. I am also an instructor at the Ankeny Art Center. Over the past three years I have taught Art Exploration and Handbuilding with Clay to K 4th graders. My main focus has been Beginning and Intermediate Pottery with 8th graders adults. Throughout my education classes at Drake I have completed a 40-hour practicum at North High School and a 30-hour practicum at Dowling Catholic High School. My time spent in the classroom during my practicums, my involvement with the Ankeny Art Center, and my time spent working with administrators, teachers, students, and parents have helped me understand the world of education and the many contributing factors. These experiences have helped me confirm my decision to become a teacher. I cannot wait to bring my positive attitude and growth mindset into the classroom. My goal is put good classroom management and different instructional strategies into action during my student teaching. I love learning, and I love helping people learn. I have a deep passion and appreciation for any/all art. In particular, I enjoy African art/culture and pottery. I am very excited and appreciative to have this opportunity to student teach and to continue my education inside the classroom. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions.
