As the Coordinator of Professional Development, I had the opportunity to work closely with Ms. Lapp through the District's Induction Program. As I observed Ms. Lapp’s classes, her love and commitment to students was clearly evident in the warm and welcoming learning environment she created in her classroom. She held high expectations for her students, would settle for nothing less than their very best work, and offered her encouragement and support to help all her students succeed. Her lessons were well designed and developed to meet the unique needs of the students in her classroom. Her students were always actively engaged in their work and were eager to participate in classroom activities. Her instructional goals were well planned and her lesson plans reflected the level of achievement she expected from her students. She integrated technology effectively to help students deepen their understanding of the content and reflect on their learning. She also used technology to communicate with parents about their child’s progress through the use of apps and web-based resources. All of her instructional decisions were made in the best interest of her students. She showed a sincere interest in them as individuals and was consistently fair in dealing with them. In the District's Induction Program, Ms.Lapp emerged as a leader. Her contributions during each professional learning session were very, thoughtful, and insightful. She continually reflected on her professional practice and eagerly asked for feedback on her teaching. She has an outstanding work ethic and is a role model for other beginning teachers. I have no doubt that these strong characteristics will make her a successful and key member of any school team.
