I believe that all children are unique individuals who learn differently, and it is up to the

educator to have different teaching approaches to suit each child. I am a firm believer that
children learn best when at play. Fully engaged, interactive, hands-on fun is the absolute
best way to capture a childs interest and encourage learning. When a child is noticeably
struggling in a particular area, the educator, given the knowledge, has the power to
improvise to suit the childs interests and inspire.
Erik Eriksons stages of psychosocial development is a guide caregivers can reference to
better anticipate, and guide children through, developmental challenges that occur. My
philosophy of education ties to his theory as a childs academic progress can be
significantly affected by these childhood crises. I also connect my philosophy to the Waldorf
approach to education, as it integrates learning and assessing through guided free-play.
I will deliver quality learning experiences, developmentally appropriate for my students, by
providing a safe, healthy, clean environment where they can explore their senses and thrive
academically. By selecting age appropriate themes and activities based on childrens
interests, I am able to make the learning experience fun and engaging, no matter the
subject area. Electing student helpers and involving them in daily procedures will help to
boost their independence and self-esteem.
Family involvement is essential in each students educational journey. Communicating with
parents allows educators to get to know who their students are beyond the behavior in the
classroom, but it also allows parents and caregivers to track their childs academic progress.
I will involve my families by minimally sending home weekly newsletters, integrating
monthly parent-child activities/events, and by maintaining a flexible schedule to help meet
even the busiest parents needs.
