Terms connected to the study of soil that you should understand and be able to use

Humus

Organic component of soil, by the decomposition of leaves and plant material by soil microorganisms

Soil horizons

A layer in a soil profile (olorosa abuela estaba ba;anadose con raul) OAEBCR
Horizons:
O Organic, nutrients
A Leaching taking place
E MORE leaching taking place
B Minerals (clay)
C Weathered rock
R Just rocks

Translocation

The transport of water. (moving)

Salinization

Enrichment in salt

Leaching

The drain of minerals from the soil

Podsolization

Organic material and soluble minerals are draged by water from A + E to B horizon.

Podsol

Infertile soil having an ash-like surface and a lower dark stratum, typically under temp coniferous woodland

Eluvial layer

Where minerals are washed out

Illuvial layer

Where minerals are moved between horizons

Gleying

Soil developing under anaerobic conditions. Brown, red, or yellow on top; bluish or greyish underneath.

Ferallitization
Mull humus

Humus formed under non-acid conditions

Mor humus

Humus formed under acid conditions

Parent material
Weathering

The wear of something because of wind, water, sand involved in weather.

Loam

Fertile soil containing humus

Clay

Fine-grained earth

Silt

Fine sand, clay, or other material carried by running water and deposited as sediment

Field capacity

Maximum amount of water that a particular soil can hold

Soil profile

A vertical section of soil from the ground surface to the parent rock

Soil texture

The thickness of the grain

Soil structure
Humification

The process of formation of humus from organic material

Mineralization

Enrichment of minerals

Lessivage
Saturation
Wilting (in terms of soil, not plants, obviously)
Micropore
Macropore

Cavities larger than 75 m

Precipitation < Evaporation = Salinization

Precipitation > Evaporation = Podsolization
